Role Overview

Slack is seeking Staff and Senior Machine Learning Engineers to develop features, services, APIs, and models that enhance our product. Our work spans summarization, recommendation, ranking, and security, aiming to drive impact organization-wide.

Impact and Responsibilities

• Develop ML models for ranking, retrieval, and generative AI.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create new features for our large user base.
• Lead or contribute to projects with significant business impact.
• Own features and systems, ensuring their long-term health.
• Support data pipelines and ML feature management.
• Assist in troubleshooting production issues.
• Mentor engineers and review code.
• Improve engineering standards and processes.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of engineering experience.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
• Experience with ML frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn.
• Experience with data processing tools like Spark, Hadoop, or Airflow.
• Experience with Large Language Models and fine-tuning.
• Strong analytical skills and experience deploying ML models at scale.
• Leadership in technical discussions and decisions.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong fundamentals in CS, algorithms, and distributed systems.

Preferred Skills

• Expertise in retrieval systems and search algorithms.
• Knowledge of vector databases and embeddings.
• Experience with NLP, ML, and Generative AI.
