Job Overview

Responsible for analyzing, developing, and coordinating the university's master campus plan and capital project 1-5-year forecast. Manages facility and project planning efforts to optimize the efficient use of campus spaces, including land use, building, landscape, parking, transportation systems, and other infrastructure components, to ensure strategic growth and development of the campus facilities and real property. Serve to create a physical environment that advances the institution's academic, research, and outreach missions.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the effort for long-range strategic planning of university facilities.
  • Update the campus master plan that outlines the long-term vision for land use, building placement, infrastructure needs, and aesthetic considerations.
  • Manage the planning and development of scope for construction projects for new facilities, renovations, and expansions on campus, considering factors like space utilization, needs and growth data analysis, accessibility, and sustainability.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the university-wide campus capital projects forecast; update at least yearly.
  • Conduct strategic feasibility and predesign studies, analyze data, and make recommendations on a wide variety of campus planning issues that include program development, building sites, space/facilities development, landscape, lighting, parking, transportation systems, and other related infrastructure components.
  • Collaborate with various campus departments, administrators, faculty, students, and community members to gather input and address concerns regarding campus planning initiatives.
  • Utilize data analysis to inform planning decisions, including facilities assessment reports, growth trends, space utilization reports, colleges and units needs analysis and traffic studies and others.
  • Develop tools for data collection, management and analysis.
  • Support capital project planners and managers regarding project scope development.
  • Mentor and supervise undergraduate engineering students.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of internal procedures.
  • Work under general supervision, performing other assignments as directed.
  • Interpret and communicate information clearly and accurately. Communicate internally within P + D + C and/or the university. Communicate with external audiences as needed.
  • Interpret and communicate information, ideas and instructions clearly and accurately, both verbally and in written materials intended for distribution

Required Education

Bachelor's degree required

Required Experience

Eight (8) years of relavent experience

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience in master planning, campus planning and long-term facilities planning
  • Strong knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) to analyze spatial data and create maps is not required by preferred.
  • Understands principles of urban planning and building design
  • Understands construction documents prepared by design professionals
  • Experienced in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and timelines
  • Knowledge of building systems and construction
  • Knowledge and experience in construction estimating
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
