Location: Stamford, CT 06905
Employment Type: Full-Time (Monday to Friday)
Salary: Based on education and experience

Join The Pinnacle School, a NEASC-accredited, state-licensed Connecticut special education school redefining education for students with complex learning challenges. Through tailored academics, real-time support, and a collaborative approach, we empower students who may struggle in traditional settings to build essential skills, grow their confidence, and gain independence.

At the heart of our work are our core values — integrity, accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and support — which guide how we show up for students, families, and each other every day.

Why Join Us?

  • Weekday Schedule – Work Monday through Friday with a consistent school-based schedule, no nights or weekends required.
  • Paid School Breaks & Time Off – Enjoy paid school breaks, holidays, and personal time off, ensuring time to recharge and reset.
  • Comprehensive Benefits – Access health, dental, and vision insurance, plus employer-paid short-term disability, life insurance, and flexible spending accounts (FSA/HSA).
  • Financial Perks – Benefit from a 401(k)-retirement plan with up to 4% company match, plus employer-paid HSA contributions and life & disability insurance.
  • Professional Development – Advance your career with tuition reimbursement, mentorship programs, leadership training, and pathways to grow into teaching or behavioral health roles.
  • Supportive Team – Collaborate with educators, specialists, and therapists in a positive, inclusive environment with annual awards, Teammate Appreciation Week, and team-building events.
  • Make an Impact – Help students with special needs build life skills, confidence, and independence in a supportive school environment.

Your Role as a Reading Specialist

  • Provide Targeted Reading Instruction – Deliver 1:1 and small group instruction using structured, evidence-based methodologies such as the Wilson Reading Program and Orton-Gillingham. Support students with significant reading and language challenges using multi-sensory, diagnostic techniques.
  • Monitor & Track Student Progress – Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student growth. Document student achievement and collaborate with the team to adjust instructional strategies and interventions.
  • Ensure a Supportive Learning Environment – Teach reading strategies that support success in content areas like science and social studies. Create an inclusive, responsive space for students with language-based learning differences.
  • Collaborate with Teachers & Families – Work closely with teachers, service providers, and families to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development. Serve as a resource to staff on reading instruction and language acquisition.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, reading, or a related field
  • Valid Connecticut state license with endorsement 102 – Remedial Reading and Remedial Language Arts (Grades 1–12), or eligibility for licensure
  • Certification or training in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or a multi-sensory approach to reading
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with special education students with language-based learning differences
  • Knowledge of the IEP process and experience with progress monitoring
