Job Summary: The Chief Financial Officer provides leadership and overall direction to the finance department and to our customers. The Chief Financial Officer is a member of the Senior Management Team and is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day leadership and operational management within the Finance Division. This position requires a driven, confident, energetic leader who has the experience to mentor and grow high performing teams.

Responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards by performing the following duties.

Job Responsibilities: Including but not limited to

  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors.
  • Maximizes return and limits risk on cash by minimizing bank balances; making investments.
  • Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
  • Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts, maintaining equipment inventories, evaluating new equipment, and techniques.
  • Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up on work results.
  • Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Establish Internal Controls, Processes and Procedures for all financial functions.
  • Establish and Manage Debt service protocols.
  • Budgetary forecasting and stress analysis.
  • Advanced Modeling and forecasting using a variety software platforms.
  • Cash flow modeling, Sensitivity analysis.
  • Joint venture structuring, Property valuations / Proformas.
  • Stress modeling, (DCF) discounted cash flow valuations.
  • Federal Tax compliance and Filings.
  • Coordinating corporate finance and managing company policies regarding capital requirements, debt, taxation, equity and acquisitions as appropriate.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action.
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall financial operation and effectiveness of the corporation.
  • Manage all corporate and related entity human resource activities (financial) including payroll, employee benefits, retirement plans, and corporate insurance and related activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages Corporate Controller and Director of Treasury, responsible for managing additional staff under the accounting and finance department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises two employees (non-supervisory). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in reporting, consolidation and financial analysis. Experience in real estate, property management and construction industry required.
  • Minimum of 5 years successfully managing, directing and leading an accounting and finance team.
  • Accounting/GAAP knowledge.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (emphasis on Excel & Access), Yardi software systems experience a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects and accounts as well as strong follow through skills.
  • Ability to complete projects timely and accurately critical.
  • Must be detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
